Caucus Statement on Death of George Floyd

The MDP Hispanic Latino Caucus stands in solidarity with Black and African American communities throughout Michigan in mourning and protesting the violent death by law enforcement of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The Caucus also supports all righteous demonstrations against racism and inequity in all forms. Ethnic and racial discriminatory violence is deeply rooted in our country’s history and continues through today with unjust enabling by faithless legislators and their representatives. Unfortunately, this is easiest seen through physical violence; it is a sad situation that protests in the streets are often our greatest opportunities to offer a strong wake up call to untrustworthy leadership.

When our country can honestly and openly speak truth to power that Black Lives Matter, we can truthfully say that Hispanic and Latino lives, Native American lives, Asian lives, and all lives matter.

We offer our deepest condolences to Mr. Floyd’s family.

Please, join us in the good fight for equality, equity, and peace.
